Not enough people are talking about what it means to discover the person you’ve always seen yourself to be - not in the physical but mental, revealing your true self.
I’ve struggled with being fulfilled when focusing on passion or one task and thats because I always knew my purpose was bigger than me. Being a multi hyphenate creative and business owner, I’m continuously working. Working on me - working on my business and passions.
I am a e-commerce business owner, hair and makeup artist, content creator and employee and I know I’m not alone. Creatives and business owners are becoming more and more common in the modern world. There are a lot of things to balance and juggle, but it's worth it. It is important to understand that being a creative is not always the same as being a business owner. The two often go hand in hand, but you can be one without the other.
A creative may be an artist, video content creator, or photographer. They may have a small or large following on social media and make money from their creativity through sponsorships or collaborations with brands.
A business owner may also be an entrepreneur who runs their own company, or they may work for another company as well as running their own side projects on the side. A business owner has to know how to run a successful company and create sustainable income streams for themselves. They also have to know how to market themselves and their product/service effectively so that they can reach a wider audience of potential customers who will buy from them again in the future.

So now, image being a creative and a business owner with multiple interest. We've all heard the term "multi-hyphenate" being thrown around when describing someone who is good at more than one thing. But what does that really mean? And how do you become one?
This section will explore what it means to be a multi-hyphenate as well as give some tips for those looking to become manage as the discover they are one themselves. Multi-hyphenate is a term used to describe someone who is professionally accomplished in more than one field of work. An individualist would have a single profession, while a multi-hyphenate would have multiple professions. A multi-hyphenate might be an artist, athlete, and businessperson who sells their artwork online. This kind of person requires skills in three different areas that are usually separate from one another. So how do you manage being a multi hyphenate? Here are tips I’ve used to manage:
Tip #1 - It is imperative for this person to prioritize their time
Find tools and tips that work for you. Notion, Airtable, my calendar and reminders on my phone is how I currently manage.
Tip #2 - Consider hiring someone
If you know you want to continue pursuing multiple interest that are profitable, hiring someone to do admin and maintenance work could not only eliminate some task but a person to be a thinking partner.
"To be a successful multi hyphenate you have to have a vision, you have to have good team of people who are better than you in certain areas but also know your strengths." ~ Issa Rae
Tip #3 - Balance in other activities
It's easy to want to work, work and work but some of the best ideas are created in nature/traveling or talking to like minded people. Do activities that you love as a way to take a break and doesn’t involve sitting in front of a computer.
Being a multi hyphenate creative and business owner is not always going to be easy but it is rewarding and a self discovery journey. Know that if you're just stepping into this realization - use this tips to get to where you want to be. I have been able to successfully create my own businesses as a result of my multi-hyphenate skillset and plan to continue to explore what this means for my future.
